Stop at the Equator in Kayabwe for photographs, refreshments and an opportunity to observe the traditional water experiment demonstrating the difference between the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Continue to Mbarara for lunch before travelling through the beautiful countryside of southwestern Uganda.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Batwa Cultural Experience

After an early breakfast, transfer to the appropriate Bwindi trekking headquarters for registration and a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers. You will be assigned a gorilla family and introduced to the trekking guidelines before entering the forest with an experienced ranger-guide.

The trek may take between two and eight hours, depending on the gorillas’ location and the forest conditions. Along the way, enjoy Bwindi’s remarkable biodiversity, including ancient trees, colourful butterflies, birds and other primates.

Once the gorillas are located, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat. Watch them feed, groom, play and interact while maintaining the required distance and following your ranger’s instructions.

After the trek, return to the park headquarters to receive your gorilla trekking certificate and enjoy your packed lunch or return to the lodge for a hot meal, depending on the trekking time.

Later, visit the Batwa community for an engaging cultural experience. The Batwa will share stories of their traditional forest life and demonstrate ancient survival skills, medicinal plant knowledge, fire-making, hunting techniques, traditional songs and energetic dances. The visit provides insight into their deep historical connection with the Bwindi forest while supporting community-based tourism.

  1. I went for the 3-day Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest in October 2022 and was assigned James as a guide who was completely professional, friendly and informative the whole time. James went above and beyond throughout the 3 days and made the experience very fun and relaxing. I cannot recommend Ngoni Safaris high enough!
