DAY 1: ENTEBBE/KAMPALA – ZIWA RHINO SANCTUARY – MURCHISON FALLS

Rhino Tracking & Transfer to Murchison Falls

Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel or accommodation in Entebbe/Kampala. This 7-Day Highlight of Gorillas & Chimpanzee Tracking tour is ideal for those seeking an unforgettable wildlife experience.

Drive northwards towards Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, Uganda’s home for southern white rhinos. Upon arrival, you will receive a briefing from an experienced ranger before setting out on foot to track the rhinos.

The rhino tracking experience provides an opportunity to observe these magnificent animals in their natural environment while learning about their conservation.

After the experience, continue towards Murchison Falls National Park with a lunch stop along the way.

Arrive in the Murchison Falls area, check into your lodge and relax.

DAY 2: MURCHISON FALLS GAME DRIVE & BOAT CRUISE

Morning Game Drive

Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before setting out for a morning game drive in Murchison Falls National Park.

Explore the northern sector of the park, where you may encounter:

• Elephants
• Lions
• Giraffes
• Buffaloes
• Jackson’s hartebeest
• Uganda kob
• Waterbucks
• Warthogs
• Various antelope species
• Numerous bird species

The early morning is one of the best times for wildlife viewing because animals are generally more active.

Return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.

Afternoon Boat Cruise

In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile towards the base of the spectacular Murchison Falls.

The river is home to large numbers of hippos and crocodiles, while elephants and buffaloes can often be seen along the riverbanks.

The cruise provides excellent photographic opportunities and spectacular views of the Nile as it approaches the falls.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3: MURCHISON FALLS – KIBALE NATIONAL PARK

Transfer to Kibale Forest

After breakfast, depart Murchison Falls and begin your journey southwards to Kibale National Park.

The drive takes you through Uganda’s beautiful countryside, local communities, agricultural landscapes and changing scenery.

Kibale is famous for its high concentration of primates and is particularly renowned for its chimpanzee population.

Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon/evening, check in and relax.

Prepare for the following day’s chimpanzee trekking adventure.

DAY 4: CHIMPANZEE TREKKING – QUEEN ELIZABETH NATIONAL PARK

Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale Forest

After an early breakfast, proceed to the park headquarters for registration and a briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers.

Begin your chimpanzee trekking experience inside Kibale Forest.

The forest is home to chimpanzees as well as several other primate species, including:

• Red-tailed monkeys
• Black-and-white colobus monkeys
• Blue monkeys
• Grey-cheeked mangabeys
• L’Hoest’s monkeys

The trek can take several hours depending on the location of the chimpanzee community.

After the trek, return for lunch before departing for Queen Elizabeth National Park.

DAY 5: QUEEN ELIZABETH – BWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

Scenic Transfer to Bwindi

After breakfast, depart Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel southwards towards Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The journey takes you through some of Uganda’s most spectacular landscapes, including rolling hills, forests and local communities.

Depending on the route and timing, there may be opportunities to stop for photographs and enjoy the scenery.

Arrive in the Bwindi area and check into your lodge.

The remainder of the day is free to relax and prepare for the following day’s gorilla trekking experience.

DAY 6: GORILLA TREKKING – LAKE BUNYONYI

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi

Today is the main highlight of your Uganda safari.

After an early breakfast, proceed to the Uganda Wildlife Authority briefing point.

Your ranger guide will provide information about gorilla trekking rules and safety before you enter the ancient Bwindi rainforest.

The trek can take anywhere from a few hours to most of the day depending on the location of the gorilla family.

Once you find your assigned gorilla family, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to observe these endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat.

After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch and then continue to Lake Bunyonyi.

Lake Bunyonyi is surrounded by green terraced hills and numerous small islands and is an ideal place to relax after your gorilla trekking adventure.

DAY 7: LAKE BUNYONYI – ENTEBBE

Return to Entebbe & Departure

Continue to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight.

GORILLA TREKKING INFORMATION

Gorilla trekking is a physically demanding activity and takes place in a mountainous rainforest environment.

We recommend bringing:

• Waterproof hiking boots
• Long trousers and long-sleeved shirts
• Lightweight rain jacket
• Gardening gloves
• Hat
• Insect repellent
• Small backpack
• Camera and spare batteries
• Reusable water bottle
• Walking stick, which can normally be obtained locally
• Packed lunch and drinking water

Porters are highly recommended because they can assist with your backpack and provide support during difficult sections of the trek.

CHIMPANZEE TREKKING INFORMATION

Chimpanzee trekking takes place in the tropical rainforest of Kibale National Park.

You should be prepared for:

• Walking on uneven forest trails
• Muddy conditions, particularly during rainy periods
• Humid conditions
• Several hours of walking

Your ranger will guide you through the forest and provide information about the chimpanzees and other wildlife encountered.

SAFARI VEHICLE

Your safari will be conducted using a private 4×4 safari vehicle with a pop-up roof, providing comfortable seating and excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography.

The vehicle will have sufficient space for luggage and will be driven by an experienced Ugandan safari driver-guide.

Uganda can be visited throughout the year. The generally drier periods are often preferred for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking, although the forests remain beautiful year-round.
